About this map

Data center locations come from the FracTracker Alliance national data-center dataset, maintained through a verified public intake form; this map refreshes from it automatically each day. Data centers are shown alongside electric transmission lines (HIFLD, line width by reported voltage class), interstate highways (U.S. Census Bureau TIGER/Line 2024 primary roads, route type I), and rural low-income census tracts (2022 boundaries) shaded by a data center suitability index (displayed as the percentile among scored tracts). Land cover for the contiguous United States is the 2021 National Land Cover Database (NLCD); Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico land cover come from MRLC's separate regional products, which have different vintages. All layers are served by the Multi-Resolution Land Characteristics Consortium (MRLC). All distances are straight-line kilometers; highway distances for data centers and census tracts are measured to the nearest interstate.
